How to Start a Hemp Farm

In the United States “hemp” is legally defined as Cannabis that has 0.3% or less THC.

Since the 2018 US farm bill it is now federally legal to grow hemp, but you will still need a state license. Some states are easy to get a license to grow any type of hemp while others put caps on the amount of the different types of licenses granted (often, most go to big companies).

  • Who is growing
  • What you’re growing (cannabinoid hemp or industrial hemp)
  • How you’re growing
  • Where you’re growing

Why Hemp?

In many places Cannabis with more than 0.3% THC is either illegal to grow or requires a large investment to get a license (many states limit the number of licenses and create oligopolies).

But because it is the same plant, with cannabinoid levels being the only difference, it’s a great way for you to get experience growing cannabis.
